Welcome to the Women’s Association of Tigray (WAT), a beacon of empowerment in Ethiopia's Tigray region. Since 1992, we have been at the forefront of advocating for women's equality and empowerment. Our mission is to actively engage women in development initiatives, ensuring their direct participation in a holistic approach. From grassroots structures to regional leadership, our well-stratified organization, led by a committed Board of Directors, has touched the lives of over 750,000 members. Through decades of impactful work, WAT has a holistic approach has pioneered efforts such as skill development, economic empowerment, and combatting gender-based violence. Holistic Approach
Medical and mental support
In its safe houses, WAT provides a supportive environment, offering trauma psychotherapy for emotional well-being, medical care for physical health, and skill-building programs to empower survivors on their journey to recovery and independence.
Economic Empowerment
WAT advocates for women's involvement in professional and managerial roles, working to dismantle barriers and empower women across diverse fields. The organization has set up a micro-financial institution, granting women access to funds, elevating their economic standing, and nurturing financial independence.
Awareness and Education
WAT actively raises awareness on critical issues such as early marriage through educational initiatives, addressing challenges that disproportionately affect women. Additionally, the organization takes a proactive stance against gender-based violence, providing safe houses and legal support for survivors, addressing the complexities of SGBV. sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).
