Women’s Association of Tigray (WAT) Launches Critical GBV Project with UNICEF

The Women’s Association of Tigray (WAT), in collaboration with UNICEF, has launched a vital project titled: “Enhance GBV prevention and Response activities through capacitating Women Led Organization (WLO) in Maichew, Raya chercher, Mehoni and Raya Azebo, in southern zone Tigray.”

* Geographic Focus: Maichew, Raya Chercher, Mehoni, and Raya Azebo areas in the Southern Zone of Tigray.

* Goal: To enhance Gender-Based Violence (GBV) prevention and response activities by strengthening the capacity of Women Development Groups in the area.

* Donor/Partner: UNICEF

🗓️ Training Event

As an initial phase of the project, WAT organized a two-day training session:

* Date: December 3-4, 2025.

* Topic: GBV Basic Concepts and Minimum Standards for Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

* Participants: A total of 30 newly recruited project staff and community-based frontline service providers.

🗣️ Launching Ceremony Highlights

The project was officially launched with a ceremony that included:

* Welcome and Call to Action: Abeba Haileselassie, CEO of the Women’s Association of Tigray, welcomed the participants and urged all stakeholders to actively contribute to the project’s success.

* Appreciation: A representative from the Southern Zone Tigray Administration expressed gratitude to WAT and the project’s donor (UNICEF).

* Project Presentation: Tsigereda Dibekulu, the project coordinator, delivered a detailed presentation on the initiative.

* Engagement: The ceremony concluded with an open discussion session on the project.

This initiative is a significant step towards bolstering local capacity to address and mitigate the risks of gender-based violence in the specified zones of Tigray.
