The Women’s Association of Tigray (WAT), in collaboration with the Eastern Zone Administration, proudly celebrated the Meskel Agame festival with survivors of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) at the Adigrat Safehouse.
The event aimed to promote healing, resilience, and a sense of community among CRSV survivors, featuring a vibrant Meskel celebration that brought participants together for a day of joy, solidarity, and cultural expression.
WAT, in partnership with Messebo Cement Factory, Sur Construction, and the Eastern Zone Administration, generously sponsored traditional meals and attire for all survivors attending the celebration.
Currently, hundreds of survivors are undergoing rehabilitation at the Adigrat Safehouse, where they are actively participating in skill-based training programs designed to support their recovery and foster economic independence.
During the festivities, WAT CEO Mrs. Abeba Haileselassie called on stakeholders to strengthen their commitment to supporting the healing and empowerment of survivors, emphasizing the importance of their reintegration into society.
Dr. Abraham Hagos, Acting Head of the Eastern Zone Tigray Administration, reaffirmed his office’s dedication to supporting survivors, pledging that his administration and relevant partners would work diligently to help them realize their entrepreneurial goals.
The Adigrat Safehouse is one of four such centers across Tigray — including locations in Maichew, Axum, and Mekelle — established as part of a broader initiative funded by UNFPA and UN Women. These safehouses play a vital role in providing holistic care, protection, and empowerment opportunities to those most in need.
